Water dispersion is the foundation of great espresso. Get it wrong, and you increase the chance of channeling, weak, flavourless shots no matter how good your beans are. This kit tackles the problem at every stage of the shot, from pre-infusion through to extraction.

1. 51mm HD High Diffusion Shower Screen
18 integrated channels direct water to the exact same positions across the entire puck bed, every single time. During pre-infusion, when the puck is most vulnerable to uneven soaking, this consistent diffusion stops micro-channeling before it starts, before pressurisation exaggerates it into a ruined shot.

2. 51mm EP Electro Polished Filter Basket
Reduced friction means the liquid flows more freely through the basket and sides. The result: smoother, more consistent coffee flow and balanced, reliable shots, extraction that matches the even dispersion up top.

3. Free 0.2mm Contact Mesh
Sits on top of the puck to retain its structure, further reducing channeling and improving diffusion. Bonus: it keeps your HD shower screen cleaner for longer, so there's less maintenance between pulls.

Regular Water Flow VS High Diffusion Water Flow
Regular espresso shower screens use a mesh to help distribute the water flow evenly, this does work quite well but unfortunately, it can result in uneven water distribution. This is due to the water gripping to the mesh, causing an irregular water flow every extraction.

The HD High Diffusion Espresso Shower Screen has been designed with channels to distribute the water flow exactly where we want it to be every time. Using this method allows us to hit the exact area we need to every extraction, distributing the water flow outwards across the entire puck bed, evenly. The HD Shower Screen also has a unique feature where the outer channels run all the way to the edge, allowing water to flow directly out the ends into the basket wall.

Delonghi 51mm shower screens are only designed to cover up to 40mm in diameter, leaving oer 10mm around the perimeter, resulting in a smaller surface area of about 20% less coverage. Utilizing the unique design of the water channels that run all the way to the edge of the shower screen, including the extended diameter of 51mm of surface area, we can target the entire puck bed all at once resulting in a full, and complete infusion.

What's the difference between the regular shower screens and the HD high diffusion shower screen?
The HD Shower Screen is designed to target the entire surface area of the puck bed, consistently every extraction. Utilizing an 18-channel design that targets up to 51mm of surface area, we can target the same spots of the puck bed every shot. This creates consistent, precise water diffusion.

Regular mesh shower screens cause erratic water diffusion due to the water gripping to the mesh and flowing completely different paths every extraction. This creates variables every time you extract that you cannot control.

How do I clean the HD Shower Screen?
When using the HD espresso shower screen daily we recommend using a cleaning brush to keep the outer surface and channels free of coffee grounds.

Once a week we recommend a full clean, which involves unscrewing the shower screen and washing both the shower screen plate and screws under water. This will ensure no buildup, and a clean and consistent flow of water for every extraction.

How to install:

• 1) Simply unscrew the center shower screw on your shower screen, and detach the shower screen from the group head.

   

• 2) Make sure to clean any residue on the group head before screwing in the new shower screen. We recommend doing a complete backflush before using new shower screen.

   

• 3) Screw in the new 51HD high diffusion shower screen using your current shower screw, run a water cycle through to make sure it is connected correcly.

   

• 4) Replace your stock filter basket in your portafilter with our new 51mm Delonghi EP filter basket. You can now dose between 16-18g of coffee in this new EP filter basket.

   

• 5) When preparing your next coffee shot, simply place the new 0.2mm contact mesh on top of your coffee puck after you have tamped it. This will help protect the puck, increase diffusion across the puck and help reduce the cleaning needed on the shower screen.

   

• 6) Make sure you run a water cycle after every extraction, this will help release any coffee grounds that may have touched the shower screen.
